2012 Toyota 4runner Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in the College area of Ventura, I got a call around 2am from a guy whose only key had stopped being recognized by his 2012 4Runner. The fob would start the car the day before. Now nothing. It was sitting in his driveway and he was already pricing out tow trucks and looking up what dealer service hours opened.

I told him to stay put.

When I got there, I checked the battery first out of habit. CR2016, correct type, seated fine. The fob itself had given up. He'd had this key for years, single key the whole time, and that's how these jobs go.

I connected my programming tool to the OBD port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for this vehicle. The immobilizer gets reset, the old key memory gets wiped, and the replacement gets registered from scratch. His 3-button remote head key was cut and paired in his driveway by 2:30am. Doors locked. Engine started. Done.

He mentioned the dealer quote he'd looked up while waiting for me. It was a lot. I don't need to attach a number to it. He saved a good chunk and skipped the tow entirely.
