Got a call from a guy out near the Montalvo neighborhood in Ventura. He had a 2013 4Runner SR5 and zero keys. Lost his only one somewhere on a trail the day before.
He had already called the dealer. They told him it would be a tow in, then a wait for the key to be ordered by part number 89070-42660, then another appointment for cutting and programming. He asked how long. They said probably a week, maybe more depending on parts. He went quiet on the phone when he told me that part.
I drove out with the key blank and my programmer. The 2013 SR5 runs the 4D-67 transponder through Toyota's standard immobilizer, no smart box, no proximity module. I pulled the key code from the door lock cylinder, cut the TOY43 blade on my mobile machine, then connected through OBD to register the new 4D-67 chip to his ECU. The whole thing, cut and programmed, took about 25 minutes on his driveway.
He sat on his tailgate the whole time just watching. When the engine turned over he didn't say anything at first. Just nodded like he was checking a box in his head. Then he said he had been borrowing his neighbor's truck for two days to get to work.
