A woman over in Old Town Simi had been nursing her 2002 Prius ignition for weeks. Some mornings it turned fine. Other mornings she sat in the parking lot near the yoga studio wiggling the key until it caught, running five minutes late every time. She finally called when it stopped turning entirely.

The dealer quote covered parts she didn't need. What she actually had was a mechanical wear problem with a chip programming step at the end. That's a very different job, and a very different cost.
She texted me later that day. The key was sliding in clean and turning on the first try for the first time in months.
