2008 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A parent up in the Woodranch community in Simi Valley was at the school for a conference when her 2008 Prius stopped seeing the smart key. She pressed Start, got the "Key not detected" message on the Multi-Information Display, and the ready light never came on. Tried holding the fob right against the button. Nothing.

I got to the school lot in about 25 minutes. First thing I checked was whether the car still had the fob registered at all. Connected my programmer to the DLC3 port under the dash, pulled the immobilizer data off the 93C56 EEPROM on the smart key ECU, and confirmed the system still had her key's ID on file. The fob itself was the problem. The board inside the MOZB31EG had a hairline crack near the battery contact, probably from years of getting tossed in a purse.
Programmed a fresh MOZB31EG, cut the emergency insert blade to match her door lock, and tested every function: proximity unlock on both front handles, push-button start, trunk release, and door lock from the exterior button. Whole thing took maybe 30 minutes.
She pulled out of the lot at 2:40. Made her pickup. No tow, no dealer queue, no rearranging her entire week.
