2011 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy in Camarillo, over by CSU Channel Islands, called because he was stuck inside his own gated community. His 2011 Prius was parked in guest parking with a dead smart key and no backup. The tow company told him they could not get past the gate without a resident escort, and he could not escort them because his car would not move. Circular problem.
I drove in behind another resident and walked to his car with my bag.
His fob was the HYQ14ACX, four-button, part number 89904-0E031. The 2011 Prius runs Toyota's Smart Key system on a Texas Instruments TMS37126 transponder tied to the immobilizer ECU on the 89990-47051 board. The system uses Toyota's DST80 encrypted protocol, which means no owner-level self-programming. You need diagnostic access through the OBD-II port.
I used my VVDI2 to pull the existing transponder data, cloned it onto a fresh chip, and cut a new emergency insert blade from the door lock decode. Registered the new smart key, confirmed the push-button start cycled clean, then walked every door handle to verify the touch-to-unlock and touch-to-lock sensors responded. The whole thing took about 35 minutes.
His car never left that parking spot. No tow truck, no dealership wait, no appointment two weeks out. I walked through a gate, fixed the car, and walked back out.
