2012 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy near the Commemorative Air Force Museum in Camarillo texted me a GPS pin and a photo of a 2012 Prius sitting in a parking lot with the hazards on. Lost his only smart key somewhere between the museum grounds and a lunch spot. No spare at home, nobody to bring one.

First thing I did was connect my ACDP2 to the OBD-II port and back up the immobilizer data from the Smart Key ECU, which on these third-gen Prius models is the 89990-47061 smart control module. That backup is my safety net before I touch anything. Then I read the security data off the DST80 chip through the ID box, decoded the mechanical key profile, and cut a fresh emergency insert blade right on the tailgate of my van.
After that, I programmed a new HYQ14ACX fob and registered it to the car. The old lost fob got wiped from the system so it is dead to the car now.
He pressed the start button, the Ready light came on, and he just sat there for a second like he was waiting for the MID to throw an error. It didn't. He drove home on his own, no tow, no dealer appointment three days out, for a fraction of what the quotes on his phone were showing.
