2012 Toyota Prius
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2012 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

There is a stretch of Camarillo just past Woodcreek where people park overnight before heading out early for whatever they have planned. A guy doing exactly that texted me one morning. He had walked back to his 2012 Prius and the fob was gone. Not dead, gone. Last spot he remembered having it was somewhere between where he had been sitting the night before and the car itself.

That is an all-keys-lost situation. No working fob in the system, no way to start the car through any shortcut.

I drove to his pin with the equipment already loaded. The job on a Prius like this means connecting through the diagnostic port, clearing the existing key memory, and registering a fresh fob from scratch. There is a timed sequence built into the process, so you do not rush it. While that was running, I cut the emergency insert blade so it would be ready to test the moment programming finished.

He was watching the whole thing from maybe three feet away, which I prefer. When I handed it over and he pushed the start button and the ready light came on, he just nodded like he had been holding his breath.

He mentioned the dealer on the way out. He had called them first out of habit, and they quoted him days out plus a tow. The tow alone from where we were standing would have been a headache. He saved a good chunk, and the car left that lot on its own.
