A guy from Sterling Hills in Camarillo called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had just gotten back from a week-long trip, pulled into his driveway, and his 2014 Prius just sat there. No response from the fob at the door handle, push-button start not seeing the key, dash showing a key-not-detected warning. He had already tried standing closer to the car. Still nothing.

Walked to the driver door. Handle touch unlock worked. Got in, push-button start saw the fob immediately, started right up. No warning on the dash.
He did not need a new fob, did not need programming, did not need a dealer appointment. He needed the right small fix done on site. The dealer would have had him schedule out, probably quoted a new fob plus labor, and he would have been without his car for days. He was driving before I had packed up my bag.
