Got a call from a guy stuck at the cell phone lot near the airport. He had been gone a week, walked up to his 2007 Prius in the Simi Valley heat, and nothing. No chirp, no door unlock, no dash response. Dead CR2032 in his MOZB31EG fob.
Worse, his emergency metal key blade was zipped inside his bag in the trunk. Locked out completely.
He had already called the dealer. Thursday was the earliest they could see him. It was Tuesday. A flatbed from the airport lot would have been its own headache and bill. He found EZ Car Keyz and asked how fast I could get there.
Forty minutes later I was at his car. Got the door open, popped my Autel IM608 on the OBD-II port under the dash, and pulled the immobilizer status. Both his fobs were still registered in the smart key ECU, but the dead battery had triggered a communication fault, code B2799, which is Toyota's master immobilizer code for lost key signal. Swapped the CR2032, cleared B2799, and cycled the system.
Tested lock, unlock, trunk release, and push-button start. All clean. He had a spare CR2032 in the glovebox before he pulled out of the space.
The whole thing took less time than his shuttle ride from the terminal. His car never moved, and he was home before dinner, two days ahead of the dealer's first opening.
