2007 Toyota Prius
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long does the actual programming take once you are at my car?

For the 2007 Prius smart key system, adding a key to an existing registered set is roughly 15 to 20 minutes at the car. An all-keys-lost job takes longer because the immobilizer reset has a timed cycle built in before new keys can be registered, so add time for that. Either way, you are looking at well under an hour of actual hands-on work. No waiting room, no service advisor, no parts department delay between you and the result.

Q: Can you get to me and finish the job faster than the dealer would?

The programming itself takes the same time regardless of who does it. The difference is everything around it. No appointment wait, no repair order queue, no tech finishing another job first. A dealer visit for a smart key job on a 2007 Prius can easily run two hours start to finish even when the actual programming is a fraction of that. We come to you, we do the work, and we are done.

Q: My 2007 Prius shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is fresh. What is going on?

Fresh battery is the first move but not the only variable. A few things can cause a key-not-detected warning even with a new CR2032 seated in the fob. The battery contacts inside the fob can corrode or lose tension over time, especially on a fob this age. If the contact is slightly bent or oxidized, the new cell is not making a solid connection. Open the fob, check the clips, clean the contact points, and reseat the battery firmly.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2007 Prius. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2007 Prius smart key system requires diagnostic equipment to register a new fob. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button combo that works for this vehicle's keyless entry and start system. The online fob still needs to be paired to your car by someone with the right tools. Bring it along when you call and we can use it, which cuts the parts cost on your end.

2007 Toyota Prius Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Guy comes back from a week-long work trip, rolling a carry-on across the cell phone lot at the airport, and his Prius just sits there. No click, no flash, nothing. Fob battery was dead. The doors were locked. He remembered the emergency insert blade about three seconds after he remembered it was inside his bag in the trunk.

The dealer could get him in Thursday. It was Tuesday afternoon. Towing from an airport lot was going to cost more than the job itself. He found EZ Car Keyz and asked if I could come out to him.

Forty minutes later I was there. The emergency insert got him into the car. I swapped the CR2032 in the fob, cleaned the battery contacts, and reseated everything. Then I connected to the OBD port to check whether the system had logged any communication faults from the battery dropout, cleared what was there, and confirmed both registered fobs were still recognized by the vehicle. Walked every function: door handles, lock button on the handle, start button response. Everything came back clean.

He drove out of that parking space before dinner. The car had not moved in a week, and the fix happened right where he left it. He put a spare CR2032 in the glovebox before I left. That part was his idea.

The dealer comparison barely came up. He just did the math himself on the way home.

Toyota Prius Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a Toyota key after hours or on a weekend in Simi Valley?▼

Most dealer service departments close in the late afternoon and are not open Sundays. If the fob dies on a Saturday night out in Bridle Path or anywhere else in Simi Valley, you are looking at waiting until Monday morning and then getting in a queue behind everyone else who showed up first. We work outside dealer hours.
