Got a text from a guy off the Cochran Street corridor in Simi Valley. His 2005 Prius was sitting in a strip mall lot with zero working keys. He had dropped his only MOZB31EG fob somewhere between a grocery run and his car, and retracing his steps turned up nothing.
He was already looking up tow trucks when he found me.
I pulled up next to the Prius with everything already staged in the van. First thing I did was pull data from the Smart Key ECU using my ACDP. On these Gen 2 Prius units, the immobilizer data lives on the 93C56 EEPROM on the smart key computer (board 89990-47012). I back that up before touching anything, every time. If something goes sideways during programming, that backup means the car goes back to exactly where it started.
Then I decoded the door lock, cut a fresh emergency insert blade on site, and built a new 3-button proximity fob from a blank. Registered it to the car, erased the lost fob so it was dead if anyone found it, and tested everything: door handles, lock button, trunk release, push-button start.
He sat on the curb watching the whole thing and kept checking his phone like he was expecting a catch. When the Prius powered up clean, he just nodded and said "that's it?" That was it. No tow, no dealer lobby, no waiting days for a part to ship in. Just a new key, built where the car sat.
