A guy called from the Lake Casitas Recreation Area in Ojai around 9 PM. His only key to a 2004 Tacoma was gone. He had checked every pocket, the truck bed, the ground around the parking area. Nothing. He was about to call a tow just to get the truck somewhere safe overnight.

It was all there. With the VIN I could confirm his key type and have the right TOY43 blank and 4C chip prepped before I left.
Under the parking lot lights I cut the mechanical key, then used my VVDI Key Tool to write the Texas Instruments 4C transponder data so his immobilizer would accept it as factory. The remote side, the BAB237131-056 three-button fob, got programmed separately. Lock, unlock, panic. Tested every function with the doors, then confirmed the engine turned over clean with no security light flashing on the dash.
He drove home that night. The dealer would have meant a tow, a wait until morning, and a bill for way more than what I charged. The VIN is the single most useful thing you can text me before I arrive. It makes everything faster.
