Got a call from a guy out near Oxnard Shores who was loading up his Tacoma for a surf trip and realized he had zero working keys. His only key had snapped at the blade a week earlier and he'd been "meaning to deal with it." Now the broken blade was jammed in the ignition and the plastic bow with the 4D-67 chip was sitting on his kitchen counter.
I pulled up to his place and started with the stuck blade. Extracted it from the ignition cylinder with a broken key extractor, no damage to the wafers. Then I got to work on the all-keys-lost side.
The 2010 Tacoma uses the Toyota 93C56 EEPROM on the immo box for key data storage. I connected my ACDP to read the immobilizer module as a backup, then ran the AKL procedure through OBD. Generated a new 4D-67 transponder key, cut it by code to match his cylinder, and programmed it to the car. After that I synced the GQ43VT20T remote, 89742-AE010, so his lock, unlock, and panic buttons were live.
He sat in the driver's seat, turned the key, and the Tacoma fired right up. Then he clicked lock and unlock a few times like he was testing a theory. Handed him the broken blade pieces back as a souvenir.
The whole thing took about 40 minutes in his driveway. A dealer would have needed the truck towed in first, then a wait of a few days for the key order. He made his surf window instead.
