That saved real time because an AKL procedure on these second-gen Tacomas means pulling the security code from the 93C56 EEPROM on the immo box, which adds steps.
I extracted the blade fragment from the door cylinder, decoded the lock wafers, and cut two fresh TOY43 keys. Then I transferred her chip and the GQ43VT20T remote board into a new shell, programmed the second key as a spare, and tested lock, unlock, and panic on both.
She went from zero keys to two in about 40 minutes. If you still have the broken pieces, bring them. The chip inside a cracked fob is almost always fine, and it makes the whole job faster and cheaper than starting from scratch.
