A guy was pulled over on the highway shoulder near Ojai Meadows Preserve in Ojai with half a key blade stuck in the ignition of his 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The other half was in his hand. He'd already called another locksmith who quoted him for a full ignition cylinder replacement, drilling and all.
I got there and used my TOY43AT Lishi to extract the broken fragment without touching the wafers inside. The TOY43AT fits Toyota's 10-cut keyway and can work around a stuck blade piece to pull it out clean. Once it was out, I decoded the lock right from the wafer readings, cut a fresh TOY43 blade, and programmed a new 4D-67 transponder through the OBD port using a Tango programmer.
His GQ43VT20T remote fob was sitting on the passenger seat, totally fine. That remote is a standalone unit on these Tacomas, just handles lock, unlock, and panic over RF. It doesn't talk to the immobilizer at all. So I only needed the new metal key with the correct chip paired to his ECU.
No drilling. No cylinder swap. No marks on the lock or scratches on the door. His original ignition works with the new key the same way it always did.
He kept flipping the key over in his hand like he was checking for a catch. There wasn't one.
