2009 Ford F-150 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman in Downtown Ventura flagged me down at the laundromat on Main Street. Her 2009 F-150 had a key another locksmith made about eight days earlier. It would start the truck fine in the morning, then by evening the theft light on the dash would blink rapidly and the engine would crank but refuse to fire. She thought it was an electrical gremlin.
It was the chip.
I pulled her key apart on the hood and ran it through my VVDI2. The transponder inside was a 4D-63 40-bit, not the 80-bit her truck's PATS module needs. That is a common shortcut with cheaper blanks. Ford's PCM will sometimes accept the 40-bit during the initial two-key programming sequence, but the deeper security check that runs after a few ignition cycles catches the mismatch. Then you get the fast-blinking theft indicator and a no-start.
I cut a new OUCD6000022 remote head key on an 80-bit blank, programmed it with her one remaining working key through the standard PATS two-key procedure, and swapped in a fresh CR2032 while I was in there. Her old battery was reading 2.7 volts, which explains why the lock and unlock buttons had been flaky at range.
Tested the remote from across the parking lot, cycled the ignition three times, watched the theft light do its normal proof-out and go solid off. Done.
The other locksmith's key looked right. It just had the wrong chip inside, and that is the kind of detail that turns a working truck into a tow bill.

“My Chevy key snapped while I was running errands in North Oxnard. He removed the broken piece from the ignition, cut a new blade, programmed the transponder, and tested everything thoroughly. The whole job was smooth and professional. Best automotive locksmith I have used.”
“My car keys were stolen on a cold evening and Nick drove all the way out to Santa Barbara. He got into my car, made a new key, and charged $100 less than another company. Friendly, skilled, trustworthy, and genuinely caring. Nick is a hero.”
“Tim is a hero. He programmed a master proximity key for a newer Volkswagen that multiple locksmiths refused to touch. He spent hours until late at night making sure every function worked perfectly. The skill level here is incredible.”
