2009 Ford F-150 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a truck owner out at Faria Beach, one of those stretches where you park close to the water and the salt air gets into everything. He had a 2009 F-150 and a key problem that had already cost him one visit to another shop.
The story he told me: a week earlier, a locksmith made him a replacement key. It worked. He drove to the beach, drove home, drove to work. Then on day eight, the truck cranked but wouldn't fire. The dash showed a key warning and it just sat there turning over with no start. He thought the truck had developed an electrical fault. He was ready to call a tow.
I pulled up and he handed me the key. First thing I noticed was the housing. It was a generic shell, not terrible, but the fob buttons had a soft, mushy feel that usually means a lower-grade board inside. I connected my programmer to the OBD port and read the key data. The transponder had been enrolled, but it had been programmed with the wrong chip type for this application. On this generation F-150, the immobilizer runs a verification cycle that doesn't fully complete in the first few start attempts. The wrong chip can pass the initial write and still fail once the system runs its deeper check after a few drive cycles. That's exactly what happened to him.
I programmed a proper replacement key with the correct transponder type matched to his truck, confirmed the remote was pairing to the factory fob ID on the module, and swapped in a fresh CR2032 while I had the housing open. Then I did what I always do: waited through a full lock, unlock, and start sequence before I packed anything up.
He stood there watching the whole thing from the tailgate. When the truck started clean on the first turn, he just nodded and said "that's it?" That's it. The dealer was going to keep the truck overnight. I was done in about 40 minutes, parked on the sand road, and it cost him a fraction of what they quoted.

“My Chevy key snapped while I was running errands in North Oxnard. He removed the broken piece from the ignition, cut a new blade, programmed the transponder, and tested everything thoroughly. The whole job was smooth and professional. Best automotive locksmith I have used.”
“My car keys were stolen on a cold evening and Nick drove all the way out to Santa Barbara. He got into my car, made a new key, and charged $100 less than another company. Friendly, skilled, trustworthy, and genuinely caring. Nick is a hero.”
“Tim is a hero. He programmed a master proximity key for a newer Volkswagen that multiple locksmiths refused to touch. He spent hours until late at night making sure every function worked perfectly. The skill level here is incredible.”
