Got a call from Peninsula Park in Oxnard. A woman had one working key left for her 2010 F-150 XLT and the blade was visibly worn, turning the ignition like it was fighting her every time.
She had been putting it off. Then the anti-theft light started flickering on startup, and one morning the truck just sat there cranking with the THEFT indicator solid on the cluster. Classic PATS rejection. The transponder in the worn key was still reading, but the mechanical wear meant the key wasn't seating deep enough in the ignition to hit the read position consistently.
I decoded the door lock for a clean cut, then cut two new OUCD6000022 remote head keys on fresh 164-R8070 blanks with H75 profiles. Connected my programmer to the OBD-II port, accessed the PATS module on the SJB (smart junction box, module 726-14B205), and ran the key learn procedure through the security countdown. Both new keys registered clean. Then I erased the old worn key so it couldn't start the truck.
Testing took longer than the programming. Three cold starts per key, remote lock and unlock from about 40 feet out, all three buttons on each fob. She stood on her porch watching me walk circles around her truck clicking buttons. I told her this part is what separates a done job from a callback.
She went from one dying key to two fresh ones, done in her driveway, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted her over the phone.
