Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2020 Ford F-150 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in Saticoy, I got a call on a Sunday morning from a woman who was already frustrated before I pulled up. She had a 2020 F-150 and a key story that started with another locksmith.

The first tech had come out, done something, charged her, and left. The truck would crank and almost catch, then die two seconds in. He told her the truck had a module issue and that she needed a dealer. She sat on that for a few days before calling me.

I've heard that two-second start-and-stall story before. The immobilizer accepts a partial learn and lets the engine fire, then shuts fuel down when it doesn't find the key fully enrolled in permanent memory. It's not a module problem. It's an incomplete security sequence. Someone rushed the process or skipped the timed countdown the system requires before it writes anything permanently.

I pulled up to her driveway with my gear, connected through the OBD port, and looked at what the previous attempt had left behind. There was a key sitting in the system that wasn't fully committed. I cleared it, started clean, and ran the full security learn with the timer allowed to complete. No shortcuts.

When the truck started and held idle, she just stood there for a second. She asked me how I knew that's what it was. I told her the two-second cutoff is almost always the same story.

She'd already paid someone once for a job that wasn't finished. The dealer would have been a separate trip plus a tow, and a wait measured in days. She got it handled on site, on a Sunday, in her own driveway. That's the version of this job that should have happened the first time.
