Got a call from a woman near Dizdar Park in Camarillo on a weeknight. She had walked out of dinner and her purse was gone. Someone lifted it off the back of her chair. Keys, wallet, phone, all of it. She borrowed the restaurant phone, called police, called her husband, then me.
Her 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee was parked in the lot next door with zero keys. I got out there that same night. The 97 ZJ has no transponder and no immobilizer, so the job was straightforward in terms of electronics: there are none. But the real concern was security. The stolen key could still open her doors and start the engine. So I pulled the ignition cylinder, decoded the existing wafers with my Lishi CH1 pick, then rekeyed the ignition and both door locks to a new combination on the spot. Cut two fresh Y159 keys to the new code.
The old stolen key is now just a piece of dead brass. It will not turn anything on that Jeep. She drove home that night, two new keys on her ring, locks changed, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted before they even scheduled her in.
