Got a call from a guy out near Camarillo Grove Park. His 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was sitting on a dirt pullout by the trailhead. No key. He figured it bounced out of his pocket somewhere on the trail and there was zero chance of finding it out there.
He had already called another locksmith who told him the ignition cylinder would need to be drilled out and replaced. That quote made him pause long enough to look for a second opinion.
I pulled up next to his WJ and went straight to the driver door with my Y159 Lishi tool. Decoded each wafer position inside the lock cylinder without removing or damaging anything. Once I had the full cut code, I cut a fresh Y160-PT blank on my mobile machine and pressed in a PCF7936 transponder chip.
Then I connected through the OBD port and ran the SKIM registration sequence. The module accepted the new chip ID, the injectors stayed live past crank, and the engine held its idle. Took maybe 25 minutes start to finish.
His door lock, his ignition cylinder, his whole steering column, all untouched. The new key works in every lock on the truck exactly the way the original did. No drilling, no new cylinder, no tow to a dealer an hour away.
He just stood there watching the engine idle like he was waiting for it to stall. It did not.
