Got a call from a woman over near Santa Paula Creek who had a 2003 Grand Cherokee with a key housing that was falling apart. The plastic shell had cracked along the seam and the whole thing was held together with a strip of electrical tape. She'd been nursing it for weeks.

Pulled the old housing apart on the hood of the Jeep, transferred the working internals into the new shell, and decoded the original blade with my Lishi tool to cut a clean copy. Same button layout, same fit, same material weight as factory.
Then I tested it the way I test every job. Lock, unlock, panic button range from the end of the driveway. Transponder start with the SKIS light cycling off within two seconds, the way it should. Pulled the key, reinserted, started again. No hesitation.
She watched the whole thing and kept looking at the old taped-up shell sitting on the hood like she couldn't believe that was all it was.
The dealer wanted to replace parts that were never broken. I just moved the good stuff into a new house.
