A woman over in Cold Spring had a 2010 Grand Cherokee that had been through it. The fob housing had a clean split right where the plastic wraps around the blade pivot, and the two halves were only staying together because of the keyring tension. The factory FCC ID on her fob confirmed the right shell match. I popped both halves of the original housing apart on the hood of the car and the circuit board slid out intact, no corrosion, contacts clean. Transferred it into the new shell, made sure the battery seated flat with good contact pressure, and snapped it together.
Then I decoded the existing emergency blade from the worn original and cut a fresh one. Walked every button, checked lock and unlock range from across the driveway, verified the vehicle responded the way it was supposed to.
The electronics were never the problem. The shell was. She drove off with a solid, rattle-free fob and paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted, for a job that took less than 45 minutes parked right where she lived.
The dealer price would have replaced parts that had nothing wrong with them.
