2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A preschool teacher flagged me down at the laundromat near Five Points Shopping Center in Oxnard. She had a 2006 Grand Cherokee and needed a spare key. The dealer had already quoted her and she figured that was the only route because of the "computer stuff" inside the key.
Her coworker had used me on a Dodge and passed along my number.
I pulled up that evening and got set up at her driver door. Her WK runs the Sentry Key system with an ID46 chip inside the remote head. The Wireless Control Module (WCM), which is the ring antenna around the ignition cylinder, interrogates that chip every time the key turns. Wrong response, the PCM kills fuel and spark. Right response, it starts like nothing happened. The whole conversation takes a fraction of a second.
I plugged my Smart Pro into the OBD port, ran the SKIS security handshake, and the tool pulled the key data from the WCM. Cut the new blade on my HPC machine right there in the parking lot, programmed the transponder, then tested all five buttons: lock, unlock, hatch, panic, remote start.
She stood there watching the whole thing and said she thought it would take all day. Thirty minutes, start to finish. Her old key still worked too, both registered and talking to the WCM.
She didn't need a dealer appointment or a tow. Just a phone call.
