2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to me in Downtown Moorpark?

Most calls in the Downtown Moorpark area get a response within 30 minutes. When you call, I confirm your year, make, and model, verify I have the right key blank on the van, and head straight to you. No dispatch delay, no second vehicle needed. Jeep dealers in this area typically book key work days out, sometimes weeks. I've heard from Grand Cherokee owners who showed up for a scheduled programming appointment only to find the fob was never ordered.

Q: Can I get a key made today, or do I have to wait for a part to be ordered?

Same day, yes. I stock key blanks and carry programming equipment on every call. Nothing is ordered and shipped. Nothing is waiting on a special part to arrive. Dealers frequently don't keep fobs for the 2016 Grand Cherokee on the shelf - owners on forums regularly report being told their fob has to be ordered, then coming back days later only to have it programmed in ten minutes. The whole wait is just the parts pipeline.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2016 Grand Cherokee. Can I program it myself or do I still need someone with a tool?

You still need a tool. The 2016 Grand Cherokee smart key system does not have a DIY relearn sequence - no button combo, no ignition cycling trick. The fob has to be enrolled through the OBD port using diagnostic equipment. Buying the fob yourself is fine and can save some money on the part, but it won't do anything until it's programmed. Bring it to me and I'll pair it.

Q: My Grand Cherokee shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is fresh. What's actually going on?

A key-not-detected warning with a new battery in the fob usually points to one of a few things. The CR2032 could be seated slightly off - the tray on these fobs needs the battery clicked fully flat, and a slightly cocked battery gives an intermittent connection that looks like a dead key. Pull it and reseat it firmly.

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

An X-ray technician working nights at an urgent care clinic in Downtown Moorpark finished her shift, walked out to the employee lot just before 1 a.m., and her 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee just sat there. Push the start button, nothing.

She tried holding the fob closer to the button. Still nothing. She pulled the backup blade out and got into the car, but starting it that way wasn't working either because she didn't know the fob-to-button trick yet. The dealer was closed. Their next available appointment was Friday. It was Monday night.

She found me and called.

I was in the lot within the hour. She was sitting on the hood, still in scrubs, phone almost dead.

First thing I did was confirm the fob itself was the problem, not something else going on with the vehicle. Connected through the OBD port, ran the key learning procedure. Her replacement fob enrolled without a fight. I handed it back to her, walked her through the passive entry, tested the start button, and then showed her exactly what to do if the CR2032 ever runs flat and she's stuck somewhere without a fresh battery. The fob-to-button backup start. She practiced it twice.

She drove home about 35 minutes after I got there. The dealer couldn't have done that on a Monday night regardless of what they would have charged.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee key replacement take?▼

Depends on the situation. If you still have one working key and just need a spare added, figure roughly 20 to 30 minutes on-site. The vehicle security system enrollment process has a short timed sequence built in, so there's a few minutes of waiting even once the tool is connected. All-keys-lost takes longer.
