Over near Steckel Park in Santa Paula, an electrician who works at the oil change shop on the main drag had been fighting his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee ignition for weeks. Wiggling, pushing, sometimes just sitting there waiting a full minute for it to turn over. The dealer quoted him a new ignition cylinder, a new key, and reprogramming. Then I decoded the lock, swapped out the worn wafers, and cut a fresh Y160 key matched to the repaired cylinder. Programmed the new transponder chip through the OBD port in about ten minutes.
I showed him the old wafers so he could see the wear pattern with his own eyes. He just nodded, like it finally made sense.
Ignition turns smooth now, key slides in clean, and he kept the part that was actually still working.
