Got a call from a woman up in the Mission Canyon area of Santa Barbara. She had a 2001 Lincoln Navigator parked in her driveway with one key that had snapped right at the head, blade still stuck in the ignition cylinder.
She had already called the Lincoln dealer. They told her to get it towed in. Earliest appointment was five days out. She asked about a loaner. No loaner.
I drove up there and found the Navigator sitting on the slope of her driveway, hood warm, broken key blade still jammed in the cylinder. Extracted the blade piece with a broken key extractor, took about two minutes. Then I checked her situation: she had no second key. All keys lost.
That means PATS gen two wants its full 10-minute security timer, twice. I connected my programmer to the OBD-II port under the dash, started the first cycle, and waited. Then the second cycle. Then I cut a fresh H72-PT blank to match the original bitting I pulled from the extracted blade, programmed the new transponder, and handed it over.
She sat in the driver's seat, turned the key, and the THEFT light on the dash went out and stayed out. Engine fired right up. She just sat there for a second with her hands on the wheel like she was making sure it was real.
The whole thing, from my arrival to a running Navigator, was about 40 minutes. She kept the broken key head as a reminder to order a spare.
