Saturday night in Oxnard, near the Del Sol shopping area. A couple had come out of dinner to a Navigator that would not start.
They pressed the button, dash lit up with "No Key Detected," and then nothing. The CWTWB1U793 fob was completely dead. Neither of them knew about the backup procedure where you hold the fob flat against the start button column so the PATS coil can read the 4D63 chip through contact. They had already called around and figured it was a Monday problem.
I was about 15 minutes out with everything I needed already in drawers behind my seat. HU101 blanks, CR2032 cells, fob shells, VVDI Key Tool Plus. Not ordering anything, not waiting on a part run.
Popped the fob open on the hood. The CR2032 was corroded enough that the board contacts had some green buildup. Cleaned the battery terminals on the remote's circuit board, dropped in a fresh CR2032, and tested proximity range from five feet back. Doors responded instantly. Push-to-start fired on the first press.
Then the verification loop: lock, unlock, panic, proximity wake on both front handles, walk-away auto-lock. Everything came back normal.
The whole thing took less time than their dinner reservation. They drove home Saturday night instead of leaving a Navigator in a parking lot for two days. Dealer would have meant a tow and a wait until Monday at minimum.
