2003 Lincoln Navigator Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from the Eastside neighborhood in Santa Barbara. A woman had come out of her house, put the key in her 2003 Navigator, turned it, and nothing. Crank but no start. The theft light on the dash was blinking steady, which on these PATS-equipped trucks means the system isn't seeing the transponder chip.

She told me she'd had it towed to a shop once before for the same thing and they told her it was the key. She'd been using the same original key for years and the second one had gone missing a long time ago.

I got there and checked the key first. The 4C transponder chip inside the H73 key head was barely reading. These glass capsule chips sit inside the plastic bow of the key, and after twenty years of pockets, drops, and Texas Instruments glass fatigue, they just give out. The PATS transceiver ring around the ignition was fine. The module was fine. Just a dead chip in an old key.

Cut a new H73-PT key on the van, programmed the fresh 4C chip through the OBD-II port using the security access timing sequence the PATS module requires, and the theft light went solid then off. Engine fired right up.

She asked how long the dealer would have taken. I told her most Lincoln dealers in the area book out days for this kind of thing, plus a tow to get there. Her truck never left the driveway.
