I programmed the new key through OBD, which means sitting through Ford's 10-minute security timer. No way around that countdown. The PCM just makes you wait while it cycles the key learn procedure.
He stood next to the truck drinking gas station coffee, watching the dashboard anti-theft light blink on and off during the timer. When the light finally went solid and the engine fired, he just nodded. No celebration. Just a guy who needed to be somewhere and now could be.
Back on the road in under an hour, security timer included. The dealer quoted him days and a tow. He paid a fraction of what they wanted and kept his morning schedule.
