2018 Lincoln Navigator Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Blackstock, over in Oxnard, a travel nurse called me on a Monday morning. She was mid-assignment, living in an apartment complex, and her Navigator fob had stopped working over the weekend. She'd already tried a new battery. Still nothing.
She called the Lincoln dealer first. They told her Friday, at best, and suggested she might need to tow the vehicle in. She was working hospital shifts starting Tuesday. Friday was not an option.
I was in the parking lot that same afternoon.
The fob itself was the factory unit with the five-button layout. She had replaced the battery herself, which was the right instinct, but she'd picked up the wrong cell size at the pharmacy. The diameter was close enough to seat in the tray, but not close enough to hold solid contact. That part alone would have been an easy fix.
The bigger issue was that the vehicle had already lost communication with the fob long enough that a re-enrollment was the cleaner path anyway. I connected through the OBD port, ran the Intelligent Access registration, cut the emergency blade to match the door cylinder, and walked every button and every door handle with her standing right there.
She asked if I'd need to take the truck anywhere. I told her no, everything happens right here in the lot. That surprised her. She'd assumed it was a dealer-only process.
It wasn't. Monday call, Monday fix. She drove herself to her Tuesday shift without calling a rideshare once.
