Got a call from a woman parked off Gonzales Road in Oxnard. Her 2014 Lincoln Navigator was doing nothing. No chirp, no locks, no response from the remote head key at all. She had a dance recital to get her daughter to, costumes sitting in the back seat behind locked doors, and the dealer told her earliest availability was the next afternoon.
I was about 20 minutes out. When I got there she was just standing next to the truck holding the fob like maybe pressing it one more time would change something.
First thing, I used the mechanical blade in the remote head key to get the door open. Plugged my IM608 into the OBD-II port under the dash. Pulled the fob apart on the hood. The CR2032 was completely flat, and when I checked PATS status through the diagnostic port, the transponder had dropped out of sync with the instrument cluster module, which handles PATS on these third-gen Navigators.
New CR2032 in, security access sequence through the ICM, reprogrammed the 80-bit transponder ID back into the system. Tested all five buttons, tested the mechanical lock cylinder, cycled the ignition twice to make sure the PATS theft light stayed off after the prove-out timer.
From her phone call to engine running was about 48 minutes. She made the recital with time to spare. That was the part that mattered to her, not the tech stuff.
