Got a call from a body shop near Chesebro Canyon Trail in Simi Valley. A 2009 Lincoln Navigator had been sitting there after some collision work, and the owner needed new keys made. Another locksmith had already attempted the job, but the car battery sagged mid-programming and the PCM threw a PATS fault. The other guy told the shop the module was fried and left.
The shop tech sounded skeptical when he called me. I get it.
I showed up and checked voltage first. Battery was sitting at 11.4 volts, which explains everything. On these third-gen Navigators, the immobilizer logic lives in the PCM, not the BCM, and PATS is extremely sensitive to voltage drops during the security access handshake. A dip below 12 volts mid-procedure and it faults out hard.
Hooked my jump pack directly to the battery terminals. Cleared the stored PATS DTCs with the IM608, confirmed the PCM was responding clean, then started a fresh all-keys-lost sequence. Two keys, two 10-minute security timers, one after the other. Then I cut the H84-PT blade to the door, verified transponder response, and programmed the remote functions.
The shop tech watched from the bay door the whole time. When the Navigator fired up, he just nodded and walked back inside. No drama. That is the best kind of job.
Whole thing took about an hour and a half. A fraction of what the dealer route would have cost, and nobody had to tow anything anywhere.
