A few things to know going in: the fob needs to match the correct configuration for your vehicle -- the factory FCC ID on your original fob is the reference point. If the replacement matches, programming through the diagnostic port registers it to your truck's immobilizer and adds it to the vehicle's key memory.

Q: The door handle on one side stopped doing the touch-unlock. The other side works fine. Is the fob the problem?

Almost certainly not the fob. If one handle detects the key and the other doesn't, the fob is doing its job -- it's broadcasting. The issue is on the door side: either the capacitive touch sensor in the handle, the antenna for that door, or the wiring between them. This is a known point of wear on larger SUVs where the door handle sees a lot of use and weather exposure. Clean the handle surface first and retest.

I got a call from a Navigator owner out in Camarillo Springs, up near the foothills. He was in his driveway and the truck wouldn't acknowledge the fob at all. Push-button start was giving him a key-not-detected warning. He'd already swapped the CR2450 himself -- or thought he had.

My key broke. Can you get the blade out and make a new one?▼

The 2021 Navigator uses a proximity smart key, so there is no blade that goes into an ignition cylinder during normal operation. The key fob communicates wirelessly and you start the truck with the push-button. That said, the fob does contain a small emergency blade that folds or slides out, used only to manually unlock the driver door in a dead-fob situation. If that emergency blade snapped off in the door lock, yes, extraction is doable on site.
