If that emergency blade snapped off in the door lock, yes, extraction is doable on site. We use a pick extractor in the lock cylinder, pull the broken piece, and either cut a new emergency blade or replace the fob housing. The ignition itself is not involved.

Buying a fob online gets you the hardware, but it won't do anything until it's paired to the truck.

The antenna in the button can read the transponder chip at close range even when the fob battery is marginal or the passive antenna has an issue. If the truck starts that way, you've confirmed the fob itself is good and you're chasing an antenna or communication problem.

If neither works, that's when it goes to diagnostic. The immobilizer, the body control module, and the antenna modules all talk to each other, and a fault in that chain needs to be read with a proper tool before anyone starts replacing parts.

I bought a replacement fob online for my 2021 Navigator. Can you just program it, or is there more to it?

One thing that comes up sometimes: if you're adding a second key while the original still works, the process is different from an all-keys-lost situation. All-keys-lost requires a full security reset, which takes longer because there's a timed security delay built into the procedure. Come with the truck, both fobs if you have them, and the title or registration -- I check ownership before I touch the security system on any vehicle.

The door handle on one side stopped doing the touch-unlock. The other side works fine. Is the fob the problem?

Almost certainly not the fob. If one handle detects the key and the other doesn't, the fob is doing its job -- it's broadcasting. Clean the handle surface first and retest. If it stays isolated to one door, that's your answer -- it's a door hardware or wiring diagnosis, not a key replacement job.
