I was parked near the Premium Outlets Area in Camarillo, finishing up paperwork between jobs, when a call came in from a Navigator owner who'd lost his only fob somewhere in the parking lot. Not misplaced. Gone. He'd checked with the outlets' lost and found twice.

The part people don't expect is how deliberate the process has to be. I verified ownership first, confirmed the vehicle, and then connected to the OBD port to run security access through the body control module. The 2022 Navigator's security architecture requires proper diagnostic handshaking before the system will accept a new key registration. No shortcut. No ignition trick. The module has to authorize the session, and you wait for it.
Once access was granted, I registered the new fob, and then came the part he wasn't expecting: I didn't hand it over and pack up.
I walked away from the vehicle to the edge of the parking lot and pressed lock. Clicked again. Walked back, tested the handle touch unlock on the driver door, then the passenger. Ran three clean starts, watching the security indicator on the dash each time. On a properly enrolled key, that light comes on briefly when you press start and then goes dark. If it flashes rapidly or stays on, something didn't take. All three starts came back clean.
