A travel nurse on a 13-week assignment near Peninsula Park in Oxnard called me on a Monday. She had a 1997 Subaru Outback, parked in her apartment complex garage, and her only key had snapped off right at the bow. Half the blade was still in the ignition cylinder.
She'd already called the dealer. They said Thursday at the earliest, and she'd need a tow because the broken blade was stuck. She was working hospital shifts all week and losing three days of her car meant paying for rides both ways.
I got there that same afternoon. First thing was extracting the broken blade piece from the ignition. It came out clean with a broken key extractor, no cylinder damage. I decoded the wafers in the lock with a Lishi SU B3 pick/decoder, then cut a fresh SUB3 blank on my mobile machine right there in the garage.
No programming needed. No chip, no immobilizer, no diagnostic port. This is a purely mechanical car. Key goes in, key turns, engine runs. I tested it in the ignition and both door locks. Everything worked smooth.
She stood there watching me cut the key on the tailgate of my van and said "that's it?" Like she was waiting for some computer step that never came.
Monday call, Monday fix. She drove herself to work Tuesday morning, no tow, no waiting on a dealer parts order, for a fraction of what they quoted with the tow factored in.
