2025 Subaru Outback Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was out near River Park/Wagon Wheel on a Tuesday when the call came in. Guy had a 2025 Outback and his fob had stopped waking the door handles.
He could still start the car if he held the fob right up to the push-button, but the proximity detection on the handles was gone. He figured the whole smart key system was failing and the dealer had already told him to bring it in.
He was parked near the trail access off Olivas Park Drive, so I was there in under twenty minutes.
Pulled the fob apart on the hood. CR2032 inside looked fine but was reading low on the tester. The battery contact plate had a slight oxidation ring where it meets the cell. Cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR2032, closed it back up.
Then I walked every function. Handle touch unlock on both front doors, the lock sensor on the handle, start button recognition at normal carry distance, lock, unlock, and the other buttons. Everything came back clean. The handles were waking up from about three feet out, right where they should be.
He'd already gotten a quote from the dealer for a full fob replacement and a diagnostic visit. That quote was a lot more than what he paid me, and the dealer's earliest appointment was four days out. He was back on the trail in about thirty minutes.
