A kayaker near El Presidio State Historic Park in Santa Barbara lost his only key somewhere between the launch point and his 2010 Subaru Outback. Checked the sand, checked with everyone around, nothing. His car was just sitting there and he had no way in.
He called a Subaru dealer first. They told him it would be a tow in, a wait of a few days for the key to be ordered, and a bill that made him go quiet on the phone. Then he found me.
I got to him that afternoon. Started with my DAT17 Lishi tool, which picks and decodes Subaru's side-milled DAT17 lock cylinder by reading each wafer position. That gives me the exact cut data without the original key, no pulling the lock apart. Cut the blade on site.
Then I connected through the OBD-II port and ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the Subaru immobilizer. The system uses a 4D62 transponder, and the AKL sequence wipes any previously registered keys and writes the new CWTWBU766 as primary. Synced the four-button remote, lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and confirmed the RF was hitting at proper range.
He sat in his Outback, turned the key, engine caught first try. Same parking spot, same afternoon. He just kind of nodded, like he expected it to fight him one more time and it didn't.
The whole thing, lock decode to engine running, took about 45 minutes.
