2013 Subaru Outback Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was past ten at night when I got the call. A guy was standing in a laundromat parking lot in the Upper East, Santa Barbara, working through that specific brand of panic that sets in when you realize your only car key is simply gone.
He did not have his registration on him. He barely remembered what a VIN was. He mentioned a tow truck twice in the first thirty seconds.
I slowed him down. Told him to walk to the front of his Outback and look through the lower left corner of the windshield at the base of the glass. He found the VIN. Then I asked if he had his insurance company's app on his phone. He did, and his policy card was right there with all the info I needed.
That VIN told me everything before I backed out of my driveway. I prepped the right blank and had the job ready to run before I even got on the road.
Under the parking lot lights I cut the blade, assembled the fob, programmed the transponder through the diagnostic port, and synced the remote. Tested every button, tested the ignition, walked the locks. He stood there and watched the whole thing, visibly decompressing.
He drove home that night. Dealer was closed. Even if they had not been, it would have been a tow, a wait, and a bill that would have hurt. The VIN is the single most useful thing you can give me. Everything else I can work around.
