A third-shift worker in Santa Barbara, over near the Arlington Theatre, called me late one night. His only key for a 2011 Outback had stopped being recognized. Got there around midnight. His Outback is the fourth-gen (2010 to 2014), running the Subaru immobilizer with the TPC 4D60 chip and the CWTWB1U811 remote head key. All keys lost. I connected my programmer through the OBD-II port and ran the AKL procedure for his platform.
Cut the emergency blade to code, programmed the new 4D60 transponder, synced all four remote buttons. Tested lock, unlock, trunk, panic. Then a cold start, engine off, restart. Everything clean.
He stood there in the alley light watching me work on the hood of his car, arms crossed, not saying a word until the engine turned over. Then he just exhaled, like he had been holding his breath the whole time.
The whole job took about 35 minutes. No tow, no waiting days at a dealer service bay, no arranging rides. He drove to work that night.
