The random cheap remotes that flood the online marketplaces are hit or miss, and when they miss, there's nothing a locksmith or a dealer can do to fix it because the hardware itself is wrong.

First move is a fresh CR2032. A low battery on these can cause partial failure where some buttons work inconsistently and range drops off before they stop entirely. Swap the battery, make sure it's seated flat against the contacts, and retest all four buttons from a short distance first, then back up and test range.

If a new CR2032 doesn't fix it, the fob may have lost its pairing, which happens occasionally after a battery runs completely dead. That's a programming visit, not a full key replacement. If the remote side works after reprogramming, you're done. If the buttons are physically damaged or the circuit board inside is cracked, then a replacement remote is the call. Either way, you're not automatically looking at replacing the whole unit.
