2000 Toyota Land Cruiser
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2000 Toyota Land Cruiser Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A parent in East Santa Paula called me on a Wednesday. Her 2000 Land Cruiser remote head key had taken a hard drop on pavement and the fob half stopped responding entirely. Doors had to be unlocked manually every time, and she had a toddler, a car seat, and a full week of errands that were not going to pause for a dealer appointment.

She had already called the dealer. They told her Monday at the earliest, pending parts availability.

I met her in the dentist parking lot that same afternoon. The fob shell was cracked at the seam from the drop, and the CR1616 contact had shifted. I checked whether it was a battery and contact issue first, because that is always worth ruling out before touching programming. The contact was bent enough that it was not recoverable just by reseating.

I replaced the fob, cut the blade to match her original, and ran the programming sequence through my diagnostic equipment to register the new key to her vehicle's security system. Tested ignition, tested all three buttons, walked the doors. Everything confirmed before I closed up.

Wednesday call, Wednesday fix. The dealer quote for the same job, with the tow she would have needed, was a significant chunk more than what she paid me. But honestly, the money was the afterthought. Four days without her car, with a toddler, is the real cost nobody puts a number on.
