A farm worker called me at 5:30 in the morning from a supply lot in the Downtown Santa Paula area. His crew was already loading and his shift started at 6. The Land Cruiser would not respond to anything on the key. No unlock, no lock, nothing.
I got to him in about 25 minutes. His HYQ12BBT looked fine on the outside, no cracks, no water damage. I popped the case open on his tailgate. The CR2016 was corroded on one contact, just enough green crust to kill the circuit. The remote side was dead, but the 4D-67 transponder was still healthy, so the mechanical key blade would have started the engine if he had thought to try turning it in the ignition.
I cleaned the battery terminals inside the fob housing, dropped in a fresh CR2016, and re-synced the remote through the OBD port using my programmer. All three buttons came back: lock, unlock, panic. Then I decoded his TOY43 keyway with the Lishi tool and cut a spare remote head key right there on the spot so he would not be in this position again.
Total time from my arrival to him pulling out of that lot was about 20 minutes. He made it to the field before the crew left. An early morning lockout does not have to wreck the whole day when the locksmith keeps the same hours you do.
