Got a call from a tire shop near the Santa Paula Art Museum in Santa Paula. Guy's 2005 Land Cruiser was stuck there because another locksmith had tried to program a key and left the immobilizer in a fault state. No start, no crank, security light solid on the dash. The problem with a bad programming attempt on these J100 Land Cruisers is the immobilizer ID box can lock out OBD communication entirely. You cannot just retry through the diagnostic port. I pulled out my ACDP bench tool, removed the immobilizer module, and read the security data directly off the chip. Cleared the fault codes, rebuilt the key registration from scratch.
His HYQ12BBT remote head key with the 4D-67 chip paired on the first clean attempt after the reset. Lock, unlock, panic, all three buttons responding. Engine fired right up.
The whole thing took about 90 minutes, most of that on disassembly and reading the module. He kept looking at the dash like the security light was going to come back on. It did not.
He saved a good chunk over the dealer route, which would have meant a flatbed ride and a multi-day wait at the parts counter for a new key order.
