Out near Ojai Meadows Preserve, late evening, a woman called me from a hospital parking lot. Her kid had just been discharged and she was ready to get home. The system pulled up the Smart Key ECU on the 89741 board and confirmed her HYQ14AAB was not registering at all. Popped the old fob open and saw it right away: the CR1632 had leaked just enough to corrode the internal antenna contact. The chip was not getting power, so even the backup close-range read was dead.
New fob, fresh cut on the emergency insert blade, full registration through the diagnostic port. The system's timed seed-key handshake on these 200-series Land Cruisers takes a minute to cycle, so I walked the vehicle while it counted down. Checked every door handle touch sensor, the hatch release, lock and unlock range from 20 feet out.
From her call to engine running was about 45 minutes. She buckled her kid in, pulled out, and that was it. No appointment, no morning wait, no second trip. Just done.
