I was parked on Linden Ave in Downtown Carpinteria when a guy called me from the library parking lot a few blocks away. He had a 2021 Land Cruiser that would crank, catch, and then die within two seconds every single time. He told me a locksmith had already been out, done the key, charged him full price, and left. The car would crank because the starter circuit saw the fob, but the immobilizer killed fuel delivery almost immediately after.
I cleared the incomplete registration, ran the full security sequence from scratch without rushing the timer, and confirmed the new key was stored correctly in the module. Then I did what I always do at the end: walked every button on the fob, checked the door handle touch unlock on both front doors, and had him start and park the truck twice himself so he could feel that it was right.
He asked me to show him the confirmation on the tool screen, so I did. That's the moment you can actually point at and say the job is done, not just attempted.
The dealer was going to be a significant chunk more, and they would have wanted the truck towed in. He had already lost money to the first guy. All I could do was get it right this time, on site, and let him drive home.
