A guy near Glen Tavern Inn in Santa Paula had his key snap in the ignition of his 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser. Half the blade stuck in the cylinder, the other half in his hand. He was mid-trip with a load to haul and a schedule that was already tight.
I got there and pulled out my TOY43AT Lishi. The J100 Land Cruiser uses the TOY43 keyway, same as most full-size Toyotas of that era. The Lishi slides past the stuck fragment and grabs it without scratching the wafer surfaces inside the cylinder. Blade came out clean. No cylinder damage.
I decoded the lock right there, cut a new TOY43 blade on the van, and cloned the 4C transponder chip. The 4C is a simple fixed-value chip, so programming through OBD took under two minutes using the T-Code. His HYQ12BBT remote housing was fine, battery still had life, buttons responded. Just needed the new blade and a fresh chip paired to the immobilizer.
He sat on the tailgate scrolling his phone. Looked up once when the engine turned over, nodded, and that was about it. No drama.
The whole thing, call to keys-in-hand, was under 45 minutes. A dealer would have meant a tow, a parts order for 89070-48821, and a wait measured in days, not minutes. A snapped key at a random stop feels like the trip is done. On a TOY43 keyway truck with a 4C chip, it is one of the fastest jobs I run.
