Out near Wheeler Hot Springs in Ojai, a guy's 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser was sitting at the edge of a gravel pulloff with the hazards on. His smart key fob had taken a hard fall onto rock and the case cracked open. The CR1632 popped out, the board inside shifted, and by the time he got everything back together the dash just read "No key."
He tried holding the fob against the start button, which is the emergency backup Toyota mentions in the owner's manual. Nothing. The board had a hairline crack near one of the antenna coil traces. Tiny, almost invisible unless you tilt it in the light.
I had a replacement HYQ14AAB in the van. Cut a new TOY48 emergency insert blade, decoded from the driver's door. Registered the new fob through the OBD port using the Smart Key system's add-key procedure, which on the 200 Series Land Cruiser involves a handshake with the smart key ECU (part number 89990-48061 on these) and has a timed security window that takes a few minutes to cycle through. Erased the damaged fob so it was dead to the vehicle.
He sat in the driver's seat, tested the start button, tried both door handles for touch unlock, and cycled the tailgate button. Everything worked clean. The whole job, including the drive out to Wheeler Hot Springs, ran well under what the nearest Toyota dealer would have quoted for parts alone.
