1997 Ford Taurus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1997 Ford Taurus Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call on a Tuesday afternoon from a guy in Downtown Oxnard who had been driving on one key for about three years. He knew it was risky. He finally lost it somewhere between the parking lot off A Street and his front door, and now the Taurus just sat.

He had already called a Ford dealer. They told him they could get him in Thursday of the following week, and they needed to verify parts availability first. He was looking at taking time off work, arranging a ride, and still not knowing if the key would be ready same day.

I pulled up to his place with the key blank and my programmer. The 1997 Taurus transponder system is a known quantity. I decoded what I needed from the vehicle, cut the replacement blade on my portable unit, and ran the programming sequence. The whole thing took well under an hour at his curb.

He turned the key, the engine came up and stayed up -- no crank-and-die, no warning lights holding. He said something like "that's it?" It's always a little anticlimactic when it goes smoothly, which is exactly how it's supposed to go.

The dealer comparison came up almost as an afterthought. He had mentally written off the rest of the week. Instead he was back on his feet before dinner.
