2012 Ford Taurus Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in San Jose Creek in Goleta, a mechanic shop called me about a 2012 Taurus that another locksmith had already walked away from.
Here is what happened. The other tech started an all-keys-lost smart key job, and the car battery dropped voltage mid-programming. The body control module, part number AG1T-15604-AE on these sixth-gen Taurus sedans, went into a security fault state. The BCM lost its handshake with the PATS module and started throwing DTC B10D7, which is the "Key-In Request Signal Circuit" fault. The other tech could not clear it, packed up, and left the car sitting there with zero working keys.
I showed up with a jump pack and clamped it on before I touched anything else. Stable voltage, no negotiation on that. Cleared the fault codes with my IM608, watched the BCM come back to a clean state, and ran a fresh PATS programming sequence from scratch. The new M3N5WY8406 fob learned on the first attempt. Push-button start, all four remote buttons, passive entry on both front doors. Everything checked out.
The shop guys watched the whole thing. I walked them through why voltage drop during the security handshake causes the lockout, so they could warn future customers.
Job took about ninety minutes, which is longer than a normal smart key. But the alternative was a flatbed ride to the dealer and a multi-day wait for a fraction of what they would have charged.
