2005 Ford Taurus Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy at a mechanic shop in the Downtown Ojai area. His 2005 Taurus was already up on a lift for brake work when the shop realized he only had one key, and that one key had a cracked head with the transponder chip barely hanging on inside the housing. The mechanic told him to get a spare made before the original died completely. Good advice.
He called the Ford dealer first. They wanted him to tow it in, leave it, and wait a few days. For a transponder key. On a Taurus. He called me instead.
I drove out, checked his existing key, and confirmed it was a PATS II system with the 4C chip. The original H72 blank was cracked right along the seam where the chip sits. One more drop on pavement and that key was done.
Cut a fresh H72-PT blank to code on site, then used the IM608 to write the new 4C transponder and register it to his PCM. The PATS module accepted it clean, no security light flash, no theft indicator. Cycled the ignition three times to confirm, started right up each time.
Whole thing took about 25 minutes, start to finish, right there in the shop parking lot. He went back to his brake job with two working keys and no tow truck involved.
