Got a call from a guy out near the Ojai Valley Trail on a Monday. He had a 2007 Ford Taurus, one key left, and the blade was worn so thin it barely turned the wafer lock anymore. He'd been jiggling it for weeks. That morning it finally gave up on him.

The anti-theft light did its ten-minute security countdown. Then the new key fired the engine on the first turn. Tested the doors, ignition on and off three times, pulled the key and reinserted. Solid.
He stood there holding both keys, the old one with its paper-thin blade and the fresh one, and just said, "That's it?" That was it. Same day, done in the parking lot, for a fraction of what the dealer route would have cost him with the tow alone.
