Got a call from a guy out near Coal Oil Point Reserve in Goleta. He was at his car in the parking area, holding his 2011 Ford Taurus smart key, pressing the start button, and getting nothing but "No Key Detected" on the message center. He said the fob had been getting weaker for a week. Doors wouldn't unlock unless he was right on top of the handle.

I got there and popped open the M3N5WY8406 fob on the hood. The CR2032 was dead flat, but the real issue was one of the battery clip contacts had a slight corrosion film on it. Greenish tint, barely visible. New battery alone would have given him the same grief within a week. I cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR2032, and snapped the shell back together.
Then the walk-around. Tested the driver handle touch-to-unlock, passenger side, trunk release button, proximity range from five feet out, and the push-button start with the fob in his pocket and again on the dash pad. Everything responded clean.
He just sat in the driver's seat for a second after it started, like he was waiting for the message to come back. It didn't. He drove out of there with a working key and a spare CR2032 in the glovebox, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
